Math Pentathlon

We are in need of additional coaches for the 2018-2019 school year!  Our most critical need is in our Division 1 (2018-2019 Kindergarten & 1st grade group).  Coaches should be willing to attend training (paid for by the club) to learn the games and then teach them to groups of up to 20 students.  After school practices are held on Wednesdays during October-April from 2:45-4:00. If interested, please email Megan Lowary at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to discuss.

2018-2019 Online Application will open September 10, 2018 and will close at 5:00 PM on September 14, 2018.  Below is a copy of the description you will see on the online application form. This information should help you understand our process.

The Mills Math Pentathlon Club is a parent-run organization that follows the curriculum of the National Mathematics Pentathlon Institute. The curriculum consists of 5 grade-specific games designed for students with a broad range of abilities. The games develop logical, computational, and spatial reasoning in a highly motivational format. The games use a variety of physical models to hone strategic thinking and problem solving skills. And, they're fun too!

Our club meets on Wednesdays after school ending at 4:00 pm. In the fall, we learn and practice the games. Those interested in participating in the the tournament are welcomed back in the spring for further practice and strategy building.

This is a very popular club with limited space. Joining is a two-part process that involves filling out an online Application form.

***For the 2018-2019 school year we anticipate capping enrollment in Division I at 16 students and Division II and III at 20-24 students per division.***

Enrollment is prioritized based on parent volunteer commitment and previous club and tournament experience. This club is 100% run by volunteers and family participation is critical to our success.  Once your application is approved, you must then officially register your child by paying your dues by the deadline or you risk forfeiting your spot to someone on the waiting list.

Because of the limited enrollment, it is essential that we have a committed attitude from your child and regular assistance from parents. We are targeting 1 adult per 4 students at each meeting.

Dues for the 2018-2019 school year are $50 per student (this amount does not include tournament fees of $42 which must be paid for students who choose to continue and go to Tournament in the Spring semester).

Scholarships for club fees are available. For information contact Susan Jetton.

Tournament participation is strongly encouraged.  Please consider your child’s willingness and availability for tournament participation prior to submitting an application for math club.

2018-2019 Tournament Dates:

Division I (Grade K -1) - TBD

Division II (Grade 2-3) - TBD

Division III (Grade 4-5) - TBD
