Summer Reading Bluebonnet Camps

Mills Library Bluebonnet & Technology Camp

We need more campers or we'll have to cancel our camp!

The first week of Summer vacation (June 5 – 9, 2017), Mrs. Higgs and Ms. Tracie will be hosting a Bluebonnet Reading Camp in the Mills Elementary Library. We will have lots of crafts, activities, technology fun, and of course, reading! Since the Bluebonnet Award Program encompasses 3rd through 6th grades, we are also inviting current 2nd graders, who will be eligible for the program next school year, as well as our leaving 5th graders, who will still be eligible to vote next year even though they will no longer be at Mills.

The Texas Bluebonnet Award Program
Every year, twenty books are selected for nomination for the Texas Bluebonnet Award (TBA). The mission of TBA program is to encourage Texas children to read more books, explore a variety of current books, develop powers of discrimination, and identify their favorite books. From the 3rd – 5th grade patrons’ perspective, they are simply having fun reading, which is our unspoken goal.

The children’s charge is to “Read 5 and Then Decide”, which is the TBA slogan or motto. There is always a variety of books on the list – Fiction chapter books, Biographies, Non-Fiction information or graphic novels, and Everybody picture books.

If they have read at least five books from the nomination list, students at Mills in Grades 3 – 5 have the opportunity to choose which book is their favorite in a state-wide vote next year.

Each session is limited to 20 participants, so please sign up before all the slots are gone. Both sessions will be identical.
